Animations of thrust ramp processes

The first two animations on this page illustrate fault bend folding above thrust ramps in simple thrust systems. The models assume kink-fold kinematics, in which distortion is accommodated by bed-parallel simple shear, as in the models of Suppe (1983).

These animations were generated using the software "Move" from Midland Valley, whose support is gratefully acknowledged.

To operate the animations, use the controls below each.

Fault propagation folding

This animation illustrates fault propagation folding above a ramping thrust tip in a simple thrust system. The models assume kink-fold kinematics, in which distortion is accommodated by bed-parallel simple shear, as in the models of Suppe (1983).
