Animations of thrust ramp processes
The first two animations on this page illustrate fault bend folding above thrust ramps in simple thrust systems. The models assume kink-fold kinematics, in which distortion is accommodated by bed-parallel simple shear, as in the models of Suppe (1983). The animations were prepared using the program FltBnd by Henry Charlesworth.
To operate the animations, use the controls below each. It is also possible to click on an animation and then control the frames using the arrow keys to step forward and backward.

Fault propagation folding
This animation illustrates fault propagation folding above a ramping thrust tip in a simple thrust system. The models assume kink-fold kinematics, in which distortion is accommodated by bed-parallel simple shear, as in the models of Suppe (1983). The animations were prepared using the program FltPrp by Henry Charlesworth.
